Early 19th Century Italian Neoclassical Style Giltwood Trumeau Fireplace Mirror Ca 1820
Finely ornamented, large Italian Neoclassic Style Trumeau mirror. Patinated beige lacquer antiqued by age, combines with gold giltwood details to create a grande & impressive architectural statement. The Neoclassic Period was inspired by classical elements from the ancient architecture of Greece and Rome. The giltwood crowned cornice atop the fluted columns provides a perfectly balanced aesthetic, framing the mirror glass beautifully. Mythological themed ornamentation includes a pair of Griffons protecting the Roman subject at center. Gilded trim of acanthus and various foliate ornamentation adorn and accentuate the classic characteristics.
Original mercury mirror with good reflectivity. Ca 1820.
