Exquisite Louis XIV Italian Trumeau cassettone version of the French Secretaire, featuring solid walnut & fine walnut burl veneer artistry. A lovely scale, both stately and delicate. The elegant two-tone colouration with ebonized decorative trim is the signature of the Lombardia region of northern Italy. Sculptural cornice above, upper two-door vitrine with lock & key, 2 pullout inkwell shelves, centre fold-down desk leaf with lock & key conceals 4 small trimmed drawers, and three-drawer cassettone base. Bronze pulls, keys & plates. Wrought hinges. Well preserved. Ca 1840.
