Late 17th Century Italian Tuscan Heraldic Coat of Arms Tapestry, from Lucca Circa 1690
Aristocratic style is presented by this tapestry; a heraldic coat of arms formed by woolen cloth of different colors applied in collage on blue woolen cloth. Lucchese (Lucca) manufacture of the late 17th Century, Circa 1690. The central shield features twin males holding golden scepters and green palms, standing upon the pair of fire breathing mythical winged golden dragons. A bejeweled white (suggesting silver) crown tops the red winged, golden, iconic Lion with prominence. The overall background color is rich blue, adorned with gold and white (silver) faux metalwork borders of chain link & vegetative decoration. Border corners feature facial impressions. Accessory colors of red & green complete the regal and formal assemblage.
